A few things have happened since I last posted here. I've started to play the songs from The Sale of Soul-making with my friends Christian Hubbard, Dan Dawson and Laurence Moore and we've had a few play-throughs. It's sounding good and we have plans to play some gigs in November and the first date of that tour is confirmed for 4th November at the Jericho Tavern, Oxford. It's exciting and we're all looking forward to it. At the moment we're still playing under my name but we're close to settling on  a band name. We're looking for more gigs in that 1st week of November in Milton Keynes, Cambridge, Bristol, Reading and London although we've been looking at other venues too.

I entered a competition in Norwich called the Next Big Thing. You submit a couple of songs and if you're picked you go through to a semi-final event which is a live battle of the bands. Fortunately that happened and the event is tomorrow night in the Open club room. If you live in Norwich please come and listen and see what you think. Tickets are not expensive for an event with 7 bands.

Future Radio gave me an interview for the competition on Wednesday which you can listen to on their website.

First gig

I played at an open mic last night at The Birdcage in Norwich. It's a monthly event with cheap entry for about 12 acts - a mixture of poets, comedians and musicians: The Birdcage cabaret

Just a quick update. Thanks to anyone who's listened to the album, I hope you enjoyed it.
I made a change to this website by adding a donate button on the side.
Also I've been experimenting with livestreaming on youtube. The idea is that I could arrange a date and play some songs live on the internet and if anyone wants to watch it live they can but if not it all gets recorded and goes up on the videos section pretty much instantly. It sounds ok most of the time but sound tends to dip in and out sometimes which is a bit of a problem. The video looks fine too coming straight from my phone camera.
I could also do some live videos more on the composition side of things if that would be interesting for anyone.
Anyway, I'll post any updates for that.
In other news I decided to get cds made up, hopefully to sell in some independent music shops in Norwich. I know there are a couple and in the past I've thought about it but it just hasn't happened so this time I'm starting small and then if all goes well I can get some more cds and take them with me on tour. I'll also send them to anyone who's bought a copy of the album on bandcamp and make that a standard part of buying the music. Although you could opt out of this if for any reason you didn't want a physical copy. Your choice.

The Sale of Soul-making is now available

Released today on bandcamp and in a few days you can get it from iTunes and other digital shops. The artwork was drawn and painted by my Mum, Beverley Insull and then photographed and edited into the cover by Ross McIntyre. If you'd like to listen to it or buy it you can go to this address: Bandcamp

I've added some bonus videos and a picture that won't be available anywhere else for now so that's one reason to get it from bandcamp.

Thanks for reading and I hope you like the album.

More previews of the album

Here's a link to my youtube channel with all the previews I've uploaded plus a live playthrough of the songs on guitar.

The artwork is finished and ready to be photographed. I'll upload it to bandcamp where you'll be able to get it straight away and then eventually it'll be in/on some other digital shops. I'd like to have some physical copies available this time so I'll look into that.

Just about ready to wrap this album up so here's a preview: 2 songs and some dodgy-looking artwork. Enjoy!

Day One

I've not really posted much in the last couple of months. I'm not exactly in limbo but a couple of things are suspended in mid-air. My e.p. should be available to buy on cd through amazon's on demand service soon and checking to see if it's there is frustrating me. Making a short film to accompany it seems too ambitious to start without a more thorough plan than I have. Those things aside I've started work on the shell of an album. This is day one. I will post a draft or two up here before I get to work on the finer details. I feel like the writing won't be a barrier here but the playing might be. To get these fingers moving faster - this is the challenge.

Thanks for reading.

An album

Hello. With the ep in full swing and out there in a few places (cds available soon) it's time to expand some of those ideas into an album. Here's a draft of probably the first track of 10 or so to quench your thirst. There might be a concept to this album so well done if you spot it.

Starting to show up in shops

Yes. It Beggars Resistance is starting to show up in digital shops in Europe. More to come.

Monday, 31 March 2014

A couple of weeks ago Planet of Sound, a show on Future Radio, played Free To Go from It Beggars Resistance. I'd sent them a copy of the EP a few days earlier and they got back to me just as they started broadcasting to let me know they were going to play one of my songs. When it was playing it was a pretty weird feeling, like my insides dissolving and the only response I could think of was to say thanks. On Saturday night it happened again with the BBC Introducing in Norfolk show but this time I missed it happening live. Listening to the podcast had the same effect on me. Anyway, thanks for the kind words!

You can listen to Planet of Sound on Monday nights at 10 on Future Radio and BBC Introducing in Norfolk on Saturday nights at 8 on Radio Norfolk. Links above.

Downloads, listen & pledgemusic

I've added a couple of sections to the website: one for digital downloads and the other so you can listen or preview the music. I'm also starting a pledgemusic campaign for pre-orders of It Beggars Resistance on vinyl. My artist profile is up here so if you're a user of pledgemusic then you can follow any updates by following me there. If not, I'll be posting updates about it right here.
